Garry Jackson (bass), is also a graduate of LCM and has performed with a number of top UK jazz musicians including Peter King, Alan Barnes, Dave Newton, Tina May, Julian Joseph, and Don Rendell. He has also worked with the great West Coast altoist Herb Geller. Much of Garry’s work is based around the North of England, and he collaborates regularly with the region’s finest musicians, such as Joel Purnell, Andrew Colman, Al Wood, and Tony Faulkner. In 1997, he was the recipient of a Sir Michael Tippett bursary for outstanding musical achievement. In 2000, he was runner up in Perrier Young Jazz Awards as part of the Chris Isaac Quartet, with which he has also worked in Norway.

Garry was part of the Jamie Taylor Trio that broadcast on BBC Radio’s “Jazz Line Up” programme in 2001 (see above), and like Jamie, he is now an instructor at LCM. His work has incorporated a wide range of musical situations from hip-hop to big band, avant-garde to symphony orchestra. After playing with Garry in 2001, Julian Joseph had this to say: “Garry Jackson is a strong and committed musician. He plays with the full intention of the musical pulse and works in sympathy with other members of the rhythm section. He is a responsive and interactive bass player with whom I have had the pleasure of playing.”
